Sandra Bullock on 'Today': New Orleans Hero (VIDEO)
New Orleans has Sandra Bullock's back, says Matt Lauer.
On August 31, Sandra Bullock gave her first television appearance in six months from the library of a New Orleans public high school. With Matt Lauer on "Today," Bullock discussed her devotion to New Orleans in the wake of Katrina, and how her "crown prince" -- her New Orleans-born son, Louis Bardo Bullock -- has changed her life.
A school board member at Warren Easton Charter High School sat down for a "Today Show" interview that aired Tuesday (and taped Sunday) alongside Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock. Bullock admitted that when she heard 2005's Hurricane Katrina had caused damage of $4 million to the public school, she feared the students who relied on their education the most would suffer, not receiving it.
Sandra Bullock called the school board and told them she wanted to get involved. On August 29 Bullock cut the ribbon of the high school's $700,000 medical clinic, to which she has donated an undisclosed amount for the construction. As a result of her commitment to the school, it's said the student body has gratefully taken Bullock in as family.

Meanwhile Bullock's own family is more fulfilling than ever. The 46-year-old actress told Matt Lauer that her eight-month-old adopted son is her "crown prince" and that she's very lucky to have gotten such an amazing child. "No one understands the shift in priorities about having a child in your life ... until you have a child in your life," Bullock told Lauer. "It naturally shifts ... he showed up and now, Louie's got the stage."
