Sarah Silverman Show Cancelled by Comedy Central
Not enough viewers.
Sarah Silverman is no longer the hilarious queen of controversy. At least not on Comedy Central. The cable network announced today that The Sarah Silverman Program will not be returning for another season.
A network rep confirmed to TV Guide that the show would not be back for a fourth season. No reason was given, though reports are that a lack of viewership brought the show's downfall.
Silverman's show, which featured Sarah and friends as fictionalized versions of themselves, began in 2007 and would go on to win over a dedicated audience, who fell in love with its irreverent humor and audacity.
At first the show did extremely well in ratings. The premiere had one of the best draws in Comedy Central history, with the network saying it was the best launch primetime launch in three years. In 2009, Silverman was nominated for and Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Then, last year, Silverman and the show's producers were ready to leave the show after Comedy Central wanted to slash its budget by 20%. New episodes were filmed, and the show (unsurprisingly) nose-dived after the network pushed its time slot from primetime to midnight in the middle of the season.
Even more surprising -- Silverman has yet to comment on the cancellation through her usually chatty Twitter account.
