Shalimar is a scent that's definitely love-it-or-hate-it, and it has some unusual notes in it... like leather. After 86 years in existence, it's been updated for the new crowd and a younger audience.
Thierry Wasser said that he took out "intimidating" notes, which improving the general "juice." BellaSugar explains the process:
"And while the new scent (an amber floral) will pay homage to the original, featuring centifolia rose, Italian iris, tonka bean, and vanilla, Initial will get an up-to-date boost with notes of caramel, Calabrian bergamot, and the hedione molecule (which makes the juice smoother)."

Are you a vintage fragrance fan, or do you prefer original formulas whenever possible? I stick to older mixes, in general, but sometimes a new mix will win me over. The most recent was a Bond No. 9 fragrance called China Town, which I had never tried because I hated the style of the bottle. Then I smelled it and... bam! Love at first sniff. Maybe I'll feel the same way about Parfum Initial. At least the bottle isn't ugly...
