Bring Santa to the theater.

Christmas is upon us, and other than glorious amounts of presents and food, that means there's a whole new batch of movies ready to entertain holiday cinema-goers. From Sherlock Holmes and Up in the Air, to It's Complicated and Nine, there's plenty for everyone in the family.

this week's heavy hitter is the new Robert Downey Jr.-infused adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. Downey plays the pipe-smoking sleuth, and Jude Law is his assistant Dr. Watson. The two must rally their wits, and their unexpected fighting skills, in order to thwart a dastardly plot.

In Up in the Air, George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a businessman who's logged almost five million frequent flier miles when suddenly his company decides to cut back on travel expenses. This puts his job at risk, but more importantly it may prevent him from seeing the fellow traveler he has fallen for, played by Vera Farmiga.

In the musical Nine, which finally hits wide-release on Christmas, an all-star cast of Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren join forces in this take on Frederico Fellini's 1963 masterpiece 8 1/2.

Those in the mood for a sweet romantic comedy this Christmas should check out It's Complicated. The film stars Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin as exes who rekindle their romance while shacked up together for their son's graduation.

Family fans of the first Alvin and the Chipmunks film will undoubtedly enjoy number two in the franchise, The Squeakquel. This time around, Dave (Jason Lee) is injured, leaving the Chipmunk crew (voiced by Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney) on their own. The film also introduces the Chipmunk's female counterparts, The Chipettes (Christina Applegate, Anna Faris and Amy Poehler).
