The Singer's Tumor Is Benign, But She Thinks Cell Phone Use Isn't

Sheryl Crow has survived breast cancer, and a new tumor found in her brain, thankfully, is "nothing to worry about," she says. But the singer is concerned about the way she thinks the tumor formed in her head.

Appearing on the debut of Katie Couric's new daytime talk show on Monday, Crow told the host she thinks a period of heavy cell phone use may have sparked the benign -- but still scary, especially for someone who's already battled cancer -- tumor, TMZ.com reports.

"I do have the theory that it's possible that it's related to (cell phone use)," Crow said.

No doctor has confirmed her theory, but the singer said the tumor is located in the area where a cell phone is held to the head. And "(in the) early days, when I was promoting my first record, I did hours of (interviews) on the old archaic cell phones," she said.

Crow said the discovery of the tumor came after she began feeling sick and "mushy," forgetting song lyrics and finding it difficult to carry on conversations to the point that she feared she has early-onset Alzheimer's.

Instead, doctors found the benign tumor, the size of her pinky finger, between her skull and the lining of her brain.

The 50-year-old mom of two -- who recorded the theme song for Couric's show -- said she was relieved, obviously, to be told the tumor was not something she had to worry about, but she told Couric it was "definitely a sobering moment."

  1. No. This sounds like another hippy dippy celebrity theory.
  2. Probably not. But I may start relying on my Bluetooth more, instead of holding my phone up to my head.
  3. Yes. We know cell phones emit radiation. That certainly isn't a good thing.
