He was aboard his own yacht with ex-girfriend Sinitta, vacationing in St. Tropez, when he received a May Day distress call over the radio.
Cowell alerted his captain and they set out to help the nine passengers whose yacht was sinking.
Sinitta tweeted, "OMG!! Just had a May Day message, 35ft boat sinking ... SC has sent us to help and rescue 9 people on board! Slipstream look alike boat"
She later added, "Everyone ok, noone hurt.captain won't let boat sink, petrol in sea etc would cause major problems and fines. No tide, so hole plugs."
