Sleep Positions and You
Let's snuggle!
Curious what your favorite sleep position says about your relationship? Check out the poses below, as well as Ameila Baur’s The Secret Language of Sleep: A Couple’s Guide, for more insight on the significance of what goes down in bed.
-Spooning-
Position: couples lie on their sides, stomach pressed against back. The most common of cuddles, this position, done right, can evoke shared feelings of warmth and true contentment. Although, this level of spooning is extremely rare and only one couple in one hundred actually achieve it.
Other benefits: The full contact of spooning can soothe back pain and stomach aches.
-Pinching Koala and Tree-
Position: One person lies on his/her back, the other lies on their side with arms and legs wrapped around the other person’s body. (Think a koala on a tree.) The harmony that comes from this position is incredibly inspirational, giving Koala couples the energy to enjoy many beneficial friendships outside their romantic one.
Other benefits: This arrangement is best for couples that sleep differently. For example, your guy likes to sleep on his back and you’re more comfortable on your side.
-The Bubble Blower-
Position: Couples lay back to back pressed against one another, knees bent, feet touching. Poses like this one signify true equality in the relationship and a matching level of commitment and intensity.
Other Benefits: Couples who lay in this position usually awaken at the same moment due to subtle flexing of the glutes.
