Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Nearly Killed Himself -- Three Times [VIDEO]
Billy Corgan Admits Contemplating Suicide
I know it's cliché that an angsty singer should have suicidal thoughts, but in the case of Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan, he really struggled with some dark moments.
Corgan admits that he "almost killed" himself a number of times.
He credits his faith in God with getting him through the tough times.
Corgan said during an appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly: "I almost killed myself about three, four, seven times. I literally started planning my death and what I would leave behind, and what I was gonna write. Three or four times in my life."
He added, "What I finally realized, at least on the back end of this, is that God, at least as I understand God, was there all along. Once I was able to process my reality in that way, I no longer felt like a victim."
Previously, Corgan had discussed the suicidal thoughts he had while recording the 1993 Smashing Pumpkins album Siamese Dream, telling NME how he had "given away all my stuff, I gave away all my records, I started giving away my guitars."
He shared, "I was fantasizing about my own death, I started thinking what my funeral would be like and what music would be played, I was at that level of insanity."
