SpareOne Cell Phone Promises 15 Year Charge
SpareOne Cell Phone Runs on Single AA Battery
If you've ever complained about how your phone needs to be charged every 10 minutes, this might be the phone for you.
Or ... maybe not. But with a 15 year battery charge, the SpareOne is a nice thing to have as a back up or in case of an emergency.
In a review by TheVerge.com, SpareOne isn't recommended as your main phone, but it certainly will serve you well in time of need.
The device is powered by just one AA battery that provides 10 hours of talk time.
As cheap as it looks, it's worth noting that the 15 year battery charge the phone promises is pretty epic.
Imagine how much changes in 15 years ... and yet your phone would still be holding a charge?

The phone itself is pretty bare-bones looking and "cheap feeling," The Verge reviewer notes, with a design that includes a clear panel that shows off the battery.
Weird.
Bonus though -- emergency flashlight! So, if you never use it to make an emergency call, it might be worth it just to stow in your glove compartment or have in an emergency kit.
As for that claim that it can "keep its charge for up to 15 years," The Verge notes that it's "entirely dependent on the battery placed inside and has no correlation with the actual hardware."
15 years, they explain, is based on "the included Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery combined with a reusable "isolator" that prevents drain when SpareOne isn't being used."
Call quality isn't exactly legendary, but "adequate," the reviewer notes.

You don't need an active service plan to use the phone to call for help -- there's an "always-on 911 feature" whether you have a SIM in the phone or not.
Alan Cymberknoh, SpareOne Project Director at XPAL Power, explains, "SpareOne's breakthrough technology provides an unprecedented lifeline during dire situations that require an emergency response. By operating on a single AA battery, SpareOne solves so many daily issues, serving as a simple back-up phone you can carry without worrying whether it's charged or not. It can be left in a car for emergencies, used by hotels who want to pre-program concierge numbers for guests, passed to your children or parents to maintain an open line of communication -- it's essentially designed to make and receive the most important calls, no matter what."
