Stephen King's 'The Shining' Sequel -- 'Doctor Sleep' -- Coming in September 2013 [VIDEO]

Doctor Sleep Will Follow Danny Torrance as an Adult

Heeeeeere's the sequel to The Shining, the 1977 Stephen King novel that spawned the 1980 Jack Nicholson movie of the same name: it's called Doctor Sleep, and King officially confirmed on his website Wednesday that it will be released on Sept. 24, 2013.

King, reports THR.com, previewed a portion of the novel during a reading at George Mason University in 2011.

The book will follow Danny Torrance, the son of Nicholson's Jack Torrance in the Stanley Kubrick-directed movie, as a grown-up hospice worker who uses his powers to help terminally ill patients die with as little pain as possible.

But, according to io9.com, Danny's life takes a turn when "he runs afoul of a gang of wandering psychic vampires who feed on people's energy."

Yeah, sounds crazy to us, too, but we loved the original book, the movie, the 1997 miniseries remake of the movie and even the Friends episode where Joey gets Rachel to read the original book (that's season three's "The One Where Monica and Richard Are Just Friends" for those of you who want to go watch it right now).

Our point: "wandering psychic vampires" or not, we can't wait to read Doctor Sleep.
