Stephen Webster for Christina Aguilera Inspired Jewelry
And a possible H&M or Target collaboration?
Christina Aguilera loves jewelry; especially Stephen Webster jewelry. Did you know her Stephen Webster wedding ring is 5 carats? She's also the face of his pricey jewelry line. Clearly, she's a fan. Well now, Stephen Webster is creating a whole line of jewelry inspired by Aguilera.
You might be thinking, "Ugh, Christina Aguilera's fans can't afford Stephen Webster!" And in many cases that might be true (especially if you're in the market for Aguilera's 5 carat ring). But at $25-$70, this is one line you'll be able to afford. According to Webster, "It's by Stephen Webster but it's Christina Aguilera-inspired... We're making the collection now and it's really for her fan base -- for young people, not for my customers." He even compares it to Juicy Couture jewelry!
In a way, it seems a bit like Stephen Webster is demeaning young people in distinguishing them from his customers. But let's face it, lots of younger people can't afford Stephen Webster and do like Christina Aguilera and Juicy Couture. The jewelry definitely sounds a bit funky, much like Christina. Stephen says, "I took some iconic things about Christina and made it into jewelry. I did a really cool big chain with big lips and the part that goes through the lips is a rose. There's a Christina charm bracelet and we did some things with her pets, some hats she's worn and something burlesque-themed."
Would you rock Christina Aguilera inspired jewelry? Stephen even hints about a possible collaboration with H&M or Target (I mean, all the top designers are doing it these days!). He says, "If all of these things sort of work, I'd then think we are ready to do a collaboration... But you have to have a real buzz around your brand with the people who shop at H&M and Target. Otherwise, it doesn't always work with jewelry. You've got to have that frenzy." Very true!
I definitely think a lower-price line from Stephen Webster will sell amazingly, but I wonder if attaching Christina Aguilera's name to it could hurt more than help. What do you think?
