'Storm Chasers' Matt Hughes Dies at 30
Suffered from depression
Matt Hughes, known for his extreme love of extreme weather, died at the age of 30 on May 26th. It wasn't until the final episode of Storm Chasers aired this week that his fans found out about his death, and we've got more info.
The Dedication installment goes out to Matt Hughes, who died in the hospital after attempting suicide.
"Matt was in the hospital for several days in intensive care, there was a 24 hour vigil outside the waiting room, family, other chasers, business associates, etc. I knew we were going to lose him," his colleague told KAKE TV. "What a lot of us didn't know was that he suffered from depression."
Hughes' memorial highlighted his passionate, giving side, and it's such a shame to have lost this Storm Chaser, dad, and husband. Discovery Channel made a fund to benefit Matt Hughes' kids, and it's reported that additional Storm Chasers episodes will follow his team as they mourn his loss.
KAKE TV published more on Hughes' death, adding that the adrenaline junkie "would do anything for anyone, would try to make everyone happy, would try to do a good job for someone ... and would never ask for anything in return."
We're truly sorry to hear about Matt Hughes, and isn't it a shame that the news has trickled down to his fans so late? His tornado-chasing legacy will live on, we're sure of that.
