The High Price Of Fashion
Ladies, if you love your long legs, take notice: a new study has revealed that women who wear high heels on a regular basis could be causing irreparable damage to their knees, feet and the muscles in their legs.

Researchers at the Musculoskeletal Research Program at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, found that women who have been wearing high-heeled shoes on a long-term basis have forced themselves into an unnatural posture, which can often lead to physical damage.
The scientists looked at nine women, all of whom had been wearing high heels 40 hours a week for at least two years, and then compared them to a group of women who rarely or never wore heels.
With sensors strapped on to detect muscle activity, posture and gait, the women then walked back and forth down a special walkway that measured the force of their footfalls.

The results showed that high-heel wearers took much shorter and more impactful strides than non-wearers, and that this behavior remained even after they took the high heels off.
The study also showed that women who wore heels had shorter fibers in their calf muscles, which forced them to put a greater strain on the muscle than women who didn't wear heels.
And that can lead to a whole host of problems.
"The results suggest that long-term high heel use may compromise muscle efficiency in walking, and are consistent with reports that HH wearers often experience discomfort and muscle fatigue," the researchers wrote. "Long-term HH use may also increase the risk of strain injuries."
Looks like it's time to break out those tennies. Can you say business casual?
