Suri Cruise's Name Means 'Horse Mackerels' in Italian
New service offers to vet your child's name.
If Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had known about a new baby naming service that checks what your child's name means in other languages, they may not have chosen Suri for their daughter. In Japanese it means "pickpocket," and in Italian it means "horse mackerels."
The new service, provided by the British company Today Translations, brings together a group of linguists to research your child's prospective name and what it means in over 100 different languages.
But the service costs around $1700, making it only affordable to those with some major baby moola. Like celebrities.
Suri Cruise is one famous tot who springs to mind. Other than the gems mentioned above, her name also means "turned sour" in French. Let's hope that's not an omen and that she grows to be a bit sweeter.
.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's youngest kid, Zuma, isn't so bad, depending on who you ask. It means "peace" in Arabic and "running horse" in Japanese, in the Aztec language of Nahuatl he would be known as "Lord frowns in anger."
So if you've got some extra dough and want to vet your child's name before unleashing her upon the world, have the experts check it out first. You kid will thank you for it later.
