'Taken 2' Kidnaps Box Office, Earns $50 Million

Don't mess with Liam Neeson. Kidnap his family, and you can expect an unholy Irish hellfire to rain down on everything you hold dear. Challenge him at the box office, and he will blow you out of the water when Taken 2 rakes in $50 million.

The sequel to the 2008 blockbuster routed the box office this weekend, pulling in $50 million domestically and $100 million internationally.
That officially makes Neeson, 60, the successful late-age action star that Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and countless others only wish they could be.
Landing in a distant second place was Hotel Transylvania, with $26.3 million. The animated monster mash, featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Cee Lo Green as classic horror flick creatures, has earned a whopping $76 million in just 10 days.

Pitch Perfect, the romantic comedy about a college loner (Anna Kendrick) who brings some attitude to an all-female a cappella group, continues to build off strong reviews and positive word-of-mouth. The film took third place with $14.7 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office this weekend was the Bruce Willis scifi thriller Looper with $12.2 million, followed by Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, which debuted with an underwhelming $11.5 million.
