Nice! Taylor Momsen wasn't afraid to go for red lips and dark eyes when we saw her dressed in her red carpet finery, and she's a perfect example of how to break the rules. Smoky eyes can go with bold lips, but only in particular circumstances--and only if you do it right!

One easy way to tone things down is to aim for smoldering eyes paired with smooth hair. Yes, we know that Taylor Momsen is rocking the waves, but she's all sorts of amazing, with professional beauty help, and we're mere mortals. Smooth it is!

On to those eyes. After lining your lashes with black liner, add gold eyeshadow from the lashes to the browbone: it brightens things up considerably before you start smudging away and topping with mascara.
