Though Expendables 2 did not eclipse the first film's opening of $34.8 million in 2010, the explosive-laden sequel still scored nearly $30 million in its first weekend in theaters.
Not only that, but it marked the very first time action legend and roundhouse kick connoisseur Chuck Norris has been at the top of the box office.
Landing in second place this weekend was The Bourne Legacy, which finds Jeremy Renner filling Matt Damon's shoes as a man who's lost everything except for his ability to utterly destroy other humans at will. The film earned $17.1 million, bringing its total to $69.6 million.

ParaNorman, a 3-D stop-motion animated adventure from Focus Features, opened in third place with a disappointing $14 million. Even though that's well below the studio's expectations, the family film still has the upcoming Labor Day weekend to make up some ground.
Rounding out the top five at the box office this weekend was the Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis comedy The Campaign, with $13.4 million, followed by Whitney Houston's final film, Sparkle, which earned $12 million.
