The Girlfriend's Guide to Surviving March Madness
Don’t get lost in the madness.
Alright, if you've ever had a boyfriend during the month of March, you know as well as I do that you probably won't be seeing much of him for the next few weeks. Well, actually, that's a lie, you'll probably be seeing more of him than you'd like. As in, he probably won't move from his "lucky spot" on the couch and he'll not only stink up your apt, he'll leave an incurable imprint of his tush on your otherwise plush sofa.
Aw, the woes of a little thing called March Madness. Yes the couple weeks during the year dedicated to all things hoops, astonishingly tall men, various snack foods, oh and, of course, beer.
And while he's probably waned on about how important these tournaments are, some gibberish about how when he was growing up the tournament helped him and his dad bond, and how you can kiss the next few episodes of Grey's Anatomy goodbye, you're more concerned that his time watching the screen will cause you to get angry, and your relationship to crumble like a half-chewed Cool Ranch Dorito.
Never fear ladies. Here are some ways to beat the MM woes.
1. Join the fun. The best way to ensure quality time with your man over the next couple weeks is to become one with the activities. Fill out your brackets as a couple and celebrate accordingly when your team wins.
2. Book a weekend at the spa with your girls. It's a week and a half in and you haven’t seen him so much as feign interest in anything other than b-ball? Get out of town. If he's not pampering you, someone has to, right?
3. Make plans for after the tournament. If you have a fantastic three-day vacay on the horizon, you'll definitely be more patient while your other half stares and screams, yet again, at sweaty men in head bands on the TV.
4. Engage in a tournament of your own. Who said watching three seasons of Friday Night Lights in three weeks isn't possible? He's making it his job to absorb all things hoops, why can't you make it your job to absorb all things Taylor Kitsch?
5. Dump him. If he can't make time for you, or is using the game as an excuse not to be with you, do you really want him around? Me thinks not.
