Producers of the hit MTV reality series The Hills have confirmed news that only 12-year-old girls and Brody Jenner (wait a sec...) care about: Lauren Conrad is leaving the show after this upcoming fifth season. Nooooooooooooo....

Yes. Season Five of The Hills will premiere on March 30, and this will mark LC's first step away from the spotlight since she appeared as a high school student in the first of MTV's "reality as high art" programs, Laguna Beach. So why is LC shunning the spotlight that afforded her the life of luxury she currently leads?

According to Liz Gately, 23-year-old Lauren is looking forward to a more private life and exploring other opportunities. Gately has promised that LC's departure will be celebrated in style, and that MTV will have to evaluate the show's format after she leaves.

Because, believe it or not, she matters to the program.
