'Today' Show Ratings Suffer After They Fired Ann Curry

For those who abandoned the Today show after Ann Curry left, the ratings are showing it.

The Today show ratings continue to sink following Curry's departure.

That'll teach them for firing her!

Never underestimate the power of the fans, that's for sure.

The New York Post reports that after Curry left the Today show, the morning program has fallen behind Good Morning America for the third week running.

Before Curry left the Today show, an average of 4.94 million viewers (2.1 million in the 25-54 age demographic) tuned in over 10 weeks.

Fast forward to present, where, 10 weeks after Curry departed, NBC now snags 4.6 million viewers and just 1.9 million are in the 24-54 demographic.

Did the show suffer when they replaced Curry with Savannah Guthrie?

Based on the online comments and tweets that followed the news that Curry was fired, it sounds like people followed through on their decision to tune in to another morning program.

GMA has emerged the victor in a post-Ann Curry morning show landscape, grabbing 4.7 million viewers in a 10-week period, with 1.75 million in the 24-54 age range.

Brad Adgate, Horizon Media's senior vice president of research noted, "The ratings point out the momentum GMA has been building. Viewers like what they're doing -- it's all so personality-driven, and that's a recipe for success. Even though NBC had the Olympics, ratings have fallen back to pre-Olympic levels."

GMA continues to garner interest now that co-host Robin Roberts is on leave and the show has a number of interesting substitutes coming on board.

Reportedly, ABC is trying to snag Michelle Obama and Ann Romney to fill in for Roberts.
