Tommy Hilfiger Sold for $3 Billion
Sold to Philips-Van Huesen Corp
Could this mean that the Tommy Hilfiger brand is going to make a comeback in a major way? This deal is creating a "massive" clothing company and bringing Izod and Tommy Hilfiger together. And we can't wait to see what happens.
If you ask me, Tommy Hilfiger has just had a problem of not knowing what it wants to be. Is it baggy clothing for the hip hop community? Or is it preppy boarding school chic? It seems to want to be both and it's nearly impossible to appeal to both crowds simultaneously.
So, I'm hoping the Philips-Van Huesen Corp can help Tommy Hilfiger find its identity and get on the market in a major way once again. According to the Chairman and Chief Executive of Philips-Van Huesen, "This is a unique opportunity to bring together two premier companies, each with iconic brands, which will deliver enhanced opportunities for our stockholders, business partners, customers and employees as we leverage a combined global platform in the years ahead."
Tommy Hilfiger was bought from their private-equity firm Apax Partners. Currently Philips Van-Huesen owns brands, Van Heusen, Calvin Klein, Izod, Arrow, Bass and G.H. Bass & Co. We hope this deal takes Tommy Hilfiger to awesome new places!
