Too Many Choices Makes Online Dating Tricky
New study says lots of choices isn't helpful.
When love's got you down, you can always take comfort in the old saying "there's plenty of fish in the pond." But when it comes to the world of online dating, this may not be as good as it sounds.
According to a new study, the overwhelming amount of choices an online dating site offers leads to poor decisions.
The study, conducted by a university in Taiwan, presented subjects with varying amounts of results to their online dating requests. Those who were provided with the most choices, or the most potential suitors, ended up making the poorest match making decision.
According to researchers, this is because people tend to get distracted by "irrelevant information," which leads to "less selective processing." That means people seem to prefer quantity over quality. They want a whole lot of people to choose from, but they don't want to take the time to "screen out inferior options."
So if you go online for dating, make sure to take your time. Because no matter how fast your internet speed is, you can't rush love.
