Twilight Takes A Bite Outta The Box Office

Twilight rakes it in. We’re shocked.

Surprise, surprise Twilight lit up the box office. The vampire thriller sucked up over 70 million in cold hard cash at this weekend's opening.

Congrats are in order for director Catherine Hardwicke. The film's opening was the biggest ever for a female director. No doubt thanks to the massive amounts of teen fans who lined up to see the flick. We're sure they had everything to do with the movie's skyrocketing success.

Hardwicke, whose other directorial credits include Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, said she’s thrilled about the numbers and hopes her success will inspire other women to get into filmmaking.

Ticked that the movie hype is over? Don't be. Number two is on its way. The studio gave the greenlight to New Moon. Yes, that means many more vampy thrills to come.
