Tyra Banks Talks About Her "Natural Hair"
Tyra Banks' Weaves and Au Naturale Locks
Tyra Banks is still talking about her hair! Was I the only one who wasn't impressed? The ex-model/talk show host was on Larry King Live this week to talk about her locks and send a positive message about "natural" hair. Here we go again!
"I've worn weaves and wigs and pieces and clip-ons and clip-outs and clip-downs and around since I was 17, 18, and I wanted to show the real me," Tyra said.
"I wanted to show the raw me, and I just got out of the shower . . . and then came out of here — on this stage, and this is me. This is me. . . . Hair for black women, we spend $9 billion a year on hair products. So growing up as a young girl and seeing images in the media where they're saying that a certain type of hair is beautiful and yours isn't is very difficult for a black woman. It's a long, political thing that we can do a whole show about."
It's definitely a complicated subject, especially for women with coarser or curlier hair who feel the need to straighten away. From one curly-haired girl to the world, Tyra's hair didn't impress me much at all. Slicked down and flat, it doesn't send the same message as if she went wild and curly.
Are you with me on this one? Why didn't Tyra show her hair curly, dry, and really natural? I was thinking it might also be perma-straightened, but I'm not positive.
