Viewers Trust Letterman Sex Apology, says Survey
Did Late Night get it right?
David Letterman's sex scandal may involve lies, adultry and blackmail, but that doesn't mean people are going to think less of him. According to a new survey, the majority of viewers believe his apology was sincere, and they have no plans of abandoning his late night talk show.
The survey, conducted by HCD Research at the website MediaCurves.com, asked over 500 people on October 1st and 2nd about their thoughts on the Letterman debacle.
55% of those asked said their opinon of Letterman had not changed after hearing his confession that he'd slept with female co-workers. The rest were split evenly between those who had a better perception and those who had a more negative one.
Respondents also indicated that the scandal would not affect their likelihood of watching the show. 73% said they would not change their viewing habits, while 15% said they are less likely to watch the show and 11% said they are more likely.
According to HCD Research president and CEO Glenn Kessler, the most heated part of the conversation occurs when the issue of family comes up. "While sincerity levels remained high throughout Letterman's confession," he said, "the curves spiked when he talked about protecting his family and the people involved in the situation."
