Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole has reportedly turned down a £4m deal to star as a judge on American Idol to be closer to husband Ashley. Cole, 26, is said to have declined the job on the panel alongside Simon Cowell, 49.

She is already a judge with Cowell on British show The X Factor. However, it is claimed she is not planning the move to America as she wants to stay closer to husband Cole, who plays football for Chelsea FC. A pal of Cole's said: "Cheryl hasn't had any TV meetings since she's been over there. It would mean she would have to leave Britain. She wouldn't leave Ashley behind. She's there to work on her new album. She only wants to focus on her music."
