We Love Whitney Port's Messy Braid!
Get the Look
There's really nothing cooler than accidentally-on-purpose messy hairstyles. You've got a great margin for error, you can often style it up when your hair is dirty, and styling product selection is a breeze. Whitney Port hung out while filming The City with her messy braid, and we want to copy that easy look. Here's how I do it.
I would start out with hair that has been scrunched with salt spray to add texture and interest--just be sure that you want to wear this style before you get spritzing!
Adding volumizing spray as you divide your hair into three sections, try weaving the hair under instead of over. Simply pull the strands in a backwards braid pattern to avoid that over-the-ear "poofiness" that you might get from a normal braid.
After you finish braiding, leave a slightly longer that normal "tail" at the end of the braid for your oh-so-casual look. You can secure it with a regular, hair-colored elastic band, a decorative band, or you can also wrap hair around a slim elastic and bobby pin it tightly for a more continuous look.
If you are feeling confident, try pulling out a few loose strands to frame your face. If you're not (me!), shake your head a few times and give the style a fierce cold blast with the blow dryer. Windblown and easy!
