Whoopi Goldberg: Barbara Walters Has Chicken Pox
Barbara Wa-Wa Has Chicken Pox? That Can't be Good ...
Veteran broadcaster, Barbara Walters has the chicken pox, according to the women of "The View."
"We want to give you an update on Barbara. You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chicken pox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest, she's not allowed any visitors. and we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching," co-host Whoopi Goldberg said on "The View" this morning.
Walters, 83, tripped and fell on the stairs at the British ambassador's home during the inauguration weeked festivities. It was during that fall that she lacerated her temple and was taken to a D.C. area hospital for observation. She began to run a high fever and was reportedly transferred to a New York City hospital later last week.
Varicella, or chicken pox as the airborne disease is known, is rarely fatal but is typically much more severe in adults than in kids. The good news for Walters is that older men usually fare much worse with the illness than do older women.
A statement from ABC says that Walters will be home "very soon."
"We love you, we miss you, we just don't want to hug you," quipped Goldberg.
