Will Madonna Replace Simon Cowell on 'American Idol'?

She could be the top contender

We've heard name after name of possible replacement for Simon Cowell when he leaves the judging table on American Idol (in just a few days!). One name we haven't heard yet is Madonna's. But now we're hearing she could be the top contender for replacing Cowell. Is this the best idea ever? Or the worst?

Madonna certainly knows a thing or two about making best-selling music. But does America want to hear her judging? We're just not so sure about that. People seem to either love or hate Madonna, and we have a feeling her know-it-all attitude could be a bit grating after a while.

But according to a source to Britain's Mirror, "Simon is going to leave a gaping hole. Not only is he an expert, he's also a big star in the US. Everyone agrees Madonna would be great and they want her as a full-time judge. But if that fails, they'd at least like her as a mentor." Wow! We had no idea.

If you ask us, we'd much rather see Madonna act as a mentor for a week on American Idol than we would as a full-time judge. We're still of the opinion that Simon Cowell's replacement needs to be a more discrete music industry expert. When Simon Cowell first started judging Idol, we had no preconceived notions of him because we had no idea who he was. We simply respected his opinions and decided whether we liked him or not based on his performance on the show.
