Will Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' Win an Oscar?
The king still reigns.
This Is It, the epic documentary about Michael Jackson's planned series of concerts, has only been in theaters since Wednesday, but it's already gaining buzz as an Oscar contender.
According to the film's director, Kenny Ortega, "This Is It" is just here to tell the story of an incredible performer. Any accolades would just be icing on the cake.
"Awards, Oscars, that’s all great wishful thinking," Ortega said, according to CBS news. "What we did here was focus on telling a good story and creating a film for the fans, really enabling them to understand what Michael Jackson had dreamed for them."
The film was actually released too late to be in the running for Best Documentary, but it could still qualify for Best Picture.
As you've probably heard by now, the new movie is pulled together from over 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage, and gives fans a sneak peak into what the King of Pop had in store before he passed away earlier this year.
Whether or not it's Oscar-worthy, we'll leave that up to you.
