World Pole Dancing Championships -- It's Not a Stripper Thing [PHOTOS]
Pole Dancing Is Now Seen as a Competitive Sport
Pole dancing … it's no longer reserved for people named Porsche or Destiny. Instead, the physical stamina required to perform slick moves on a pole (go ahead, giggle if you must) have turned pole dancing into a fitness pursuit -- pole dancing classes are offered at many gyms now -- and a world championship sport.
The 2012 World Pole Dancing Championships were held last week in Zurich, Switzerland, and competitors from more than 26 countries flew in to show off their " strength, artistry and stamina," MNN.com reports.

There is a governing body for the sport: The World Pole Dance Organization. In addition to producing the world title event, the group also works to promote pole dancing as a legitimate sport and its participants as true athletes.
