"10 Tips Obama Can Take From Tiger" Is Awkward
Failed Mag Cover Makes Us Giggle
You might hate all of the Tiger Woods coverage (and mistresses almost dropping out of the sky daily), but you can probably appreciate the tragic awkwardness of this golf magazine cover story: "10 Tips Obama Can Take From Tiger." Golf Digest editors are cringing.
Golf Digest proudly displayed a cover of Tiger Woods looking serious while golfing, along with Barack Obama crouching on the green. The January 2010 issue went to print in mid-November, giving a couple of weeks time for full circulation before full news of Tiger's transgressions exploded worldwide.
The article, entitled 10 Tips Obama Can Take from Tiger, claims that our president watches Tiger Woods to get tips on preserving his image. "Tiger never does anything that would make him ridiculous," the cover story says. Cue the giggles.
.
In addition, the article claims that "two men [who] might have much to talk about, like siblings separated at birth." Tiger Woods is praised as "a good role model because has always been able to pull himself together after setbacks."
Either the journalist responsible for this is cringing, or they are simply happy they're getting a little extra press. Either way, this is embarrassing! I thought that all writers were supposed to have some kind of special intuition to avoid these things, but maybe this was just the wrong query letter at the wrong time.
