A New Take on Forever Young With Jay-Z and Mr. Hudson
Song of the Day
I'm totally obsessed with Jay-Z's new album right now, The Blueprint 3. The awesome thing about Jay-Z is that he always stays totally true to himself. His music does new and innovative things, but he's always super creative with his lyrics and his songs are always catchy.
When you first hear "Forever Young," you probably won't even realize it's a Jay-Z song. That's because Mr. Hudson starts of singing the classic Rod Stewart song "Forever Young." And he sounds super good doing it! Then Jay-Z chines in with his classic Jay-Z rapping. And Jay-Z always sounds good doing that. I love that his raps are always fun to listen to and they generally make perfect sense. This one is a little less ridiculous than some of his others (I love ridiculous, creative Jay-Z!), but it fits the song perfectly:
"So we live a life like a video/When the sun is always south and you never get old/And the champaign is always cold/And the music is always good/And the pretty girls just happen to stop by in the hood/And they have they pretty ass up on the hood pretty ass car/Without a wrinkle went today/Cuz there is no tomorrow/Just some picture perfect day/That last a whole lifetime/And it never is/Cuz all we have to do is hit rewind."
I can't help but wonder if Rod Stewart has heard this version of his song and what he thinks of it. The rap fits the classic verses so well and it really brings a new, exciting feeling to an old classic.
