AFI Names 'Precious,' 'Hurt Locker' Among Best Films of 2009

As we approach the end of 2009 everyone is starting to release their "best-of" lists. The American Film Institue has released its own list, with a collection of films critics are calling the best movies of the year. Among the winners are Pixar's Up, the comedy The Hangover and the critically acclaimed drama Precious.
AFI's complete list of the ten best film's of the year includes Precious, The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, The Hangover, Up, Coraline, The Messenger, A Serious Man, A Single Man, and Sugar. However, there is no ranking to the list, so everyone involved can call themself a winner.
The Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker, about a special bomb-diffusing unit, had a big weekend. Not only did it make AFI's list, but it was also named the year's top film by the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn.
AFI also released its list of best television shows of the year. The Big Bang Theory, Big Love, Friday Night Lights, Glee, Mad Men, Modern Family, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Nurse Jackie, Party Down, and True Blood were all honored.
