Movies making money

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp ruled the box office once again this weekend, as their strange odyssey Alice in Wonderland beat out Matt Damon's The Green Zone, earning $62 million in its second weekend.

The weird and wacky reimagining of Lewis Carrol's classic children's book scored big with audiences for the second weekend in a row, pushing the film's ten day total to over $200 million. That makes it the most succesful film of Tim Burton's long career.

Opening in second place with a very disappointing $14.5 million was The Green Zone, starring Matt Damon as a special forces soldier in Iraq. Considering the film cost $100 million to make, it has a whole lot of ground to make up if it wants to be anywhere near profitable.

The comedy She's Out of My League opened with just under $10 million, which was better than expectations, earning it third place at the box office.

Rounding out the top five were Robert Pattinson's Remember Me, which sputtered with only $8.2 million in its first weekend, and the thriller Shutter Island, which added $8 million to its total of $109 million.
