Lilly Scott blaming America for being simple, not voting.

American Idol has whittled down to its coveted top 12 spots, and the contestants who are still in the competition range in sound from R&B to old-time-vibe, British-inspired songbirds. Lilly Scott was one of the four contestants who met the end of the road last week on Idol, and she thinks she knows why. (Whether you liked Lilly Scott or not, these quotes may be enough to turn you off completely.)

I always was taught that if you're upset about something, let yourself simmer down for awhile and then address it effectively -- minus the hard feelings. Maybe Idol producers should have told Lilly Scott the same thing, because she's bitterly blaming the Idol audience for letting her go. Here's what Lilly Scott said on a conference call this week:

"...Watching certain people make it into the top 12 that have not done so well these past three weeks and facing the judges' comments on my songs these past three weeks, I was just frustrated. My fanbase wasn't really there, even though the producers and the judges seemed to love me. I guess my fans weren't there which is why I said 'I don't know what America wants to listen to.' But having said that, my voting demographic is probably people who don't even own a TV and if they do, they're probably out doing something more productive than watching TV, let alone American Idol! I guess they just weren't voting."

"I love Pasty Cline, but then again the American Idol voting demographic is probably tweens, like 11- and 12-year-old girls, and I'm sure they don't know who Patsy Cline is and that probably affected me."

"I definitely think I would fit in the summer festival circuit like Coachella and Bonaroo. [PopEater has more music fests listed here.] I know there's a fanbase out there that's loving what I'm doing and that's not necessarily the voting demographic of American Idol. I thought maybe I could break the mold, but it's just another season of the same old stuff!"

Nasty pill to swallow, eh Lilly? If you hadn't alienated America as your voting audience by Thursday, then you sure have now! People who like Lilly Scott probably do own a television, but let's face it: the singing wasn't that good. I don't care how many instruments you can come out and play, if you don't play them well or at least sing well and play "enh," we're not going to keep you. Plus, while I don't discriminate because I love an artist who does indie well, but if you can't boast a look that more of us can relate to or just find attractive, then you're not going to last that long. (I'm sorry, she kept losing me with those ball-of-yarn earrings.)

Lilly Scott says that after she was botted, Idol judge Kara Dioguardi suggested "maybe America ... didn't know what to do with me," Scott said. Yes, we did. So, we did it.

Meanwhile there's an American girl who does indie very well...check out lady in red Kristen Stewart at The Runaways premiere this week. Now that's what I'm talking about!
