Beating Swine Flu with Exercise
Regular Exercise Could Stave Off Flu
This seems like such a given, but I'm just throwing it out there: you might be able to beat swine flu by exercising. 'Cause exercising makes you a healthier person. Groundbreaking, right? Here is one person's story about exercising regularly and fighting swine flu.
Demi Knight Clark, who owns her own marketing and public relations firm, noticed that swine flu was going around her community. She dedicated herself to working out after discovering that the swine flu vaccine wasn't available in her area, MSNBC explains.
With four days of yoga and two days of pilates every week, Clark hoped to stay healthy this winter. She ended up getting swine flu after her children showed symptoms of the bug. "I flew right through it," Clark commented.
While scientists have already researched moderate exercise and its connection to fighting illness with boosted immune systems, no studies have been done yet on swine flu specifically.
"There is evidence that moderate exercise or physical activity can be beneficial in terms of reducing the incidence and severity of upper respiratory tract infections from all causes," Jeffrey Woods, a professor of kinesiology and community health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, told MSNBC.
Just another reason to start working out this winter!
