Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

Whether your favorite character was Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird or the Swedish Chef, there's hardly anyone out there who didn't sit down as a kid and watch the wild and woolly adventures of Sesame Street. This week marks the 40th birthday of the classic television show.

If you've been over to the Google homepage, you've probably already seen today's Doodle: a bright yellow homage to the tallest Sesame Street character, Big Bird. That's because Sesame Street, one of the most beloved children's shows in history, celebrates its 40th anniversary this week.

Since November of 1969, the show has entertained, instructed and provided sanctuary to young children. Countless kids owe the foundations of their education to the programming. Besides, it's always been fun to say that I learned all I need to know on The Street.

And apparently we're not alone in our love for the Muppet-filled show. First Lady Michelle Obama appeared before the U.N. in May and couldn't help gush about the show.

"I'm thrilled to be here, but I was just at Sesame Street, I'm sorry," she said as the audience laughed. "And I never thought I'd be on Sesame Street with Elmo and Big Bird, and I was thrilled. I'm still thrilled. I'm on a high."

To celebrate the show's birthday occasion, Mrs. Obama (along with a whole host of other celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman) will make another special appearance with Elmo this week.
