Billboard Names Decade's Top One-Hit Wonders
Now you see 'em, now you don't.
One-hit wonders from the past decade are receiving another chance today following Billboard's release of its list of top ten single hot shots. At the top is Daniel Powter's "Bad Day," a song that was so overplayed it may have made your day even worse after hearing it.
Billboard has put together a list of the top 40 one-hit wonders of the decade, "ranked by how high their big song climbed on the chart compared to how far down the tally their subsequent highest-charting effort peaked."
If you were unlucky enough to have something even slightly less-than-favorable happen to you back in 2006, there's a pretty good chance Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" would find its way to your ears. The song finished first on the list because it stayed at number one for five weeks, and Powter never broke the top 100 again.
In second place was Terror Squad's "Lean Back," a 2004 hit that kicked off the laziest dance move you'll ever see in a hip hop club. Really, since when was "leaning back" dancing?
But my personal ire goes out to the third place finisher, "Butterfly," by Crazytown. The 2001 song is like a tornado of bad taste, with all its star tatoos, bleached hair and nose rings. Rap-rock proceeded to take a long overdue nose dive after Crazytown took the controls.
