Boy George Is Worried About One Direction
Does Boy George Really Want to Hurt The Guys of One Direction?
Culture Club's Boy George has concerns about the boys in One Direction. He's worried that all the fame and attention at a young age will wreak havoc on their personal lives in much the same way that it did to his.
Talking to Britain's "Q" magazine, George, nee George Alan O'Dowd, says that, ""What usually happens with pop stars is when they first get famous they're quite well behaved and then after they have their moment they start falling apart. I'm sure we have One Direction stories coming. It's so predictable."
Perhaps. But that doesn't mean that Harry and the gang will necessarily develop (or have to confront) the demons that George did. By the late 80s, on the heels of huge success with his band, Culture Club, he'd been a heroin addict for several years and tried to perform while stoned out of his mind -- with fair-to-middling success.
He went to rehab and was thought to be on the straight and narrow until in 2005 he was arrested for cocaine possesion in New York City. He has been arrested many times on varying charges throughout the years and is thereby semi-convinced that the boys in 1D stand to become as messed up as he is.
"People have this idea of Boy George now, particularly the media: that I'm tragic," he's said. "That I'm f**ked up. I mean, I'm all those things, but I'm also lots of other things. Yes, I've had my dark periods, but that isn't all I am."
