Burberry Social Network for Fashionistas

Attention fashionistas!

Social networking is coming to fashion. If it sounds a little crazy, we agree. How long before every designer brand has their own social network? We can only handle so many; and we have so many favorite designers! But Burberry's social networking site may just be perfect for you.

We suppose it is kind of natural progression. The point of being fashionable is for other people to see us. And social networking is definitely one way for other people to see us. So, we guess it makes sense that designer brands are headed the way of social networking.

Burberry just launched their social networking site, Art of the Trench (we love the music from The Kooks!). We think the name is pretty fabulous and the concept seems pretty simple. As far as social networks go, it doesn't seem like it will be too big of a time-suck. Basically, you can head to the site to view photos of all kinds of people wearing Burberry trenches, courtesy of The Sartorialist. Or you can sign up for an account and submit photos of yourself wearing your Burbery trench. Then you can comment on others' submissions and share them on Twitter and Facebook.

According to Burberry's creative director, "Everybody has a different story related to their coat or the first time they came into contact with one - I love the idea that people from all over the world can share those stories and images with each other and all the different attitudes and expressions of the Burberry trench coat and the people who wear it."

OK, so we kind of think that's a bit extreme. Obviously Burberry coats are quite expensive, but that doesn't mean they play such a big part in our lives we need to talk about them all over the Internet. Sounds a little bit like bragging to us.

But we wonder if this will raise Burberry's trench coat sales. Buy a trench and you can brag to all your friends! Will you sign up for Burberry's new social networking site?
