CW's 'Vampire Diaries' Picked up for Full Season
More blood to go around.
Hungry fans of The Vampire Diaries can look now forward to a heaping helping of the hit television series. The show's network, The CW, has picked it up for a full season.
After scoring the highest ratings for any CW premiere, ever, how could CW executives pass up such a good chance? Combined with the current popularity of vampires in general (Twilight, True Blood), The Vampire Diaries seemed almost destined to be a hit.
And it's only gotten bigger. The ratings have increased over the past few weeks to 4.5 million viewers, quite a lot for a smaller television network. This makes it the network's most watched show.
Produced by Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson, The Vampire Diaries follows a pair of ageless vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore, as they attempt to integrate into the lives of humans in present-day Virginia.
Also in CW news, Melrose Place has been extended for another five episodes, even though ratings have thus far been lackluster. Experts believe this extension may have to do with the fact that queen mean herself, Heather Locklear, is set to return in her original role, and the network is hoping this will boost viewership.
