Catherine Zeta-Jones on Her Struggle with Moods
Zeta-Jones is home from mental health treatment.
We reported when news broke Wednesday that Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones had been hospitalized to get help for her hitherto secret battle with Bipolar II disorder. In a recent interview, the 41-year-old wife and mom hinted at her dark struggle with emotions; and it appears husband Michael Douglas' health may have been the final straw.

That's why Catherine Zeta-Jones' rep spoke out Wednesday after "The National Enquirer" broke a story that Zeta-Jones had been receiving treatment at a Connecticut mental health center to cope with Bipolar II disorder. The disorder is marked with severe mood swings, but often good moods just don't feel very great. In a recent interview, Zeta-Jones clued the public in on what she'd been dealing with. She told London's "Sunday Times" recently:
"I try and stay positive, being negative isn't good for my personality. I don't just bring myself down, I bring everyone around me down. It's like a dark cloud, 'Uh-oh, here we go', and I have to snap out of it."
Zeta-Jones added that she's aware she has a great life, but sometimes her relationship with herself causes pressure. "I'm lucky," she said. "But that's not to say I don't get down on myself."
