Celebrity Writer Dominick Dunne Dies Age 83

Dominick Dunne - the Vanity Fair journalist who covered celebrity trials including those of OJ Simpson and Phil Spector - has died. The witty and often acerbic writer was 83.

Dunne's son, actor Griffin Dunne. announced his death, saying his father died of bladder cancer. The bespectacled writer joined Vanity Fair in 1984, first as a contributing editor, before being named as a special correspondent nine years later. During his time at the magazine, he covered some of the most notorious trials in US history. They include those of OJ Simpson, Phil Spector, the Menendez brothers, William Kennedy Smith, and Claus von Bülow. Dunne also attended the impeachment of President Clinton. Well known on the celebrity and society circuit, the writer did profiles on everyone from Warren Beatty and Elizabeth Taylor to von Bülow and Imelda Marcos. But his own life was touched by tragedy in 1982 when daughter, Poltergeist actress, Dominique Dunne was killed by her ex-boyfriend at 22. Two sons - Alex and Griffin - survive Dunne. In addition to his journalism career, he saw five of his novels become bestsellers.
