Chris Elliott to Be Dad in 'How I Met Your Mother'

Have you always wondered about that elusive father in How I Met Your Mother? We want to know who Lily's father is! And now we'll get a chance to see. He's going to be played by Chris Elliott. And we agree with I'm Not Obsessed that he sounds perfect!

You might know Chris Elliott as Peter from Everybody Loves Raymond. He's Robert's overly needy brother-in-law who really, really looks up to Raymond. He also played a cameraman on Groundhog Day. And "Woogie" in There's Something About Mary. You know, the one with the shoe fetish. In short, he tends to play pretty eccentric, kind of annoying characters.

Now Chris Elliott will play Lily's father in How I Met Your Mother and it doesn't look like much will change. Lily's loser, good-for-nothing dad, wlill be showing up for Thanksgiving dinner at the grandparents' house. And we're sure to get plenty of insight into why Lily's the way she is and why their relationship is so troubled.

Series creator Carter Bays told TV Guide, "He was not at the wedding. It's a bit of an estranged relationship and he's going to come back into her life... We find out he wasn't the best dad. It's sort of at the root of why Marshall's very gung-ho about having kids and Lily not so much."

We think Chris Elliott will be perfect as Lily's dad and aren't sure there would really be anyone better. The episode airs November 23 and we can't wait to tune in. Definitely something to tide us over until the 100th episode airs in January with Tim Gunn and Rachel Bilson!
