Coffee Meets Bagel Dating Site Has New Internet Dating Approach

There's a new online dating site that does away with the hassle of going through dozens of possible matches, instead sending you one match per day.

With the Coffee Meets Bagel model, you get one match and have 24 hours to accept it or pass.

Those too busy to search through dating sites looking for possible matches have the benefit of Coffee Meets Bagel doing the work for them.

Mashable explains, "Similar to the excitement of timed shopping sites, every day at noon users are sent one match, or "bagel." Users can see that person's picture and profile and have 24 hours to decide if they want to go on a date with them or not by clicking "yes" or "pass.""

One of the founders of Coffee Meets Bagel, Arum Kang, says that it's not quantity as much as quality, which is a pretty great idea when it comes to dating.

Both people have to answer yes to accept the other person as a match and the site provides a daily deal offer for a discounted drink or appetizers to use on their date.

Coffee Meets Bagel differs from other dating sites in terms of how much profile information shared, as "users can see their match's picture and some details about them on their profile," Mashable explains.

Arum further explains, "Our model is unique in that the match is exclusive to one another. So if you are matched with Ed, let's say, you see his profile for 24 hours while Ed sees your profile for 24 hours. And after the 24th hour, the match disappears and you might never connect with this person again! I think there's something very serendipitous and powerful to that. It gets people to engage more."

How cool is that?

The site also has the option for users to put themselves on temporary hold if their schedule is too busy for dating or if they find they are hitting it off with one of their matches.

Arum notes, "Online dating space gets a bad reputation -- and rightfully so -- because products out there are time-consuming, blatantly public, and expensive. For us, it didn't make sense to have members spend that much time searching and browsing for profiles and spend so many hours sending emails. With Coffee Meets Bagel, after a two minute sign up process, we do the work and deliver one curated match a day at noon for our members."

The only drawback? Right now the site is only available in New York City and Boston.
