Is it a fair settlement?

It sounds like all the Tonight Show deals are finally coming to a close and Conan O'Brien is walking away with $32.5 million. But don't worry because his 200 staffers will be getting severance, too. This sounds like a pretty good deal for Conan O'Brien.

So, we'll no longer get to see Conan O'Brien as the host of The Tonight Show. He and NBC have finally struck a deal, which has Conan O'Brien walking away with $32.5 million. Though Conan won't likely see all of that money. According to TMZ, "any money Conan makes during the remaining contract period with NBC will offset the network's obligation. So, if Fox were to make a deal with Conan and pay him $25 mil during the NBC contract period, Conan would only score $7.5 mil from NBC." I guess that makes sense!

And there's severance involved for Conan's staffers, too. NBC's total payout will likely be around $40 million. Just to get Conan to go away!

Also, Conan won't be able to start hosting another show until September, which means we have to go 9 months without him! In other sad news, it doesn't look like Conan is going to get intellectual property rights, which means he'll have to leave Triumph the Insult Dog and the Masturbating Bear with NBC. Do you think they'll try to make Jay Leno use them? That probably wouldn't go over well!

The deal sounds mostly fair, though I think Conan should get to take his property with him. But I see why NBC doesn't want him to. What do you think of the deal? Will you miss Conan O'Brien if he doesn't come back until September?
