Conan O'Brien's Goodbye Bash: Whiskey, Ice Cream, Sushi
And no bitter stomachs in the morning.
Conan O'Brien's farewell to NBC Friday night showed the iconic late-night comic moved to tears at one point. With unforgettable appearances by Tom Hanks, Neil Young, Will Ferrell and Steve Carell, Conan bid his audience a tearful farewell (clip below) telling them to "work hard" and be "kind," hailing them for their outpouring of support and thanking NBC for being his home for 20 years.
But the party was the really fun part.
It's said Conan's 200-person crew took off for an unforgettable afterparty where staffers wore "Team Conan" t-shirts and interns rocked "I'm with Coco" duds. (During Conan's final celebrity interview on NBC, Tom Hanks pointed out that in fact it was he who had coined the name CoCo for Conan in 2009.)
It's said Conan rubbed elbows with fellow celebs only minimally and spent most of the evening posing for photos with all of his employees. There was sushi, Ben & Jerry's ice cream and reportedly loads of Irish whiskey. Our friends at PopEater have reported that attendees drank "magnums" of Jameson...whoa Coco! (PopEater also has more details on Conan's awesome farewell episode.)
Was January 22, 2010 the end of Conan O'Brien on late night television? Probably not. As we reported last week, it sounds as though Fox has already registered a domain in Conan's name...but since we won't see Conan again until September per the severance contract ($$$) he worked out with NBC, here's the emotional farewell that had Conan's viewers (read: cult members -- and proud of it) saying, "This is a perfect ending!"
