Meditation Can Be Used to Fight Depression

It was recently revealed in People that Hugh Jackman meditates twice a day, and he said that it transformed his life. If you've been experiencing mood swings or other challenges, meditation could be the ticket!
Practicing meditation, some claim, can help you clear your mind long enough to evaluate your feelings and actions that can affect depression, and can also help gain a sense of perspective on troubling daily experiences. In fact, a study at the Univesity of Winsconsin in Madison showed that after two weeks of daily 30-minute meditation on compassion, volunteers demonstrated improved well-being and a willingness to help others. Later brain scans also showed that the insula, an area of the brain capable of sending messages to the body regarding emotional distress, was also more active.
