Smirnoff and Penny, both 32 years old, became engaged during week 3 of Dancing with the Stars, after Smirnoff she performed the foxtrot with her partner, Jersey Shore's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.
"I had crazy hair and black lipstick on and was just concerned about looking like the Bride of Frankenstein," Smirnoff told usmagazine.com. "Even after Brad got down to one knee and opened the box with the ring, it still didn't register."
The pair kept the news to themselves over the last month so they could tell family in person.

"We kept it quiet because my family is in New York and Brad's family is in Oklahoma so we kind of wanted them to come out and celebrate and be a family first before we let the cat out of the bag," Smirnoff told People.com.
Smirnoff, who was previously engaged to her Dancing with the Stars co-star Maksim Chmerkovskiy, met her baseball beau in October 2009 through a common friend, UFC fighter Chuck Lidell.
